Personality:

Like canonical Sheila, the Scorpion Stinger is generally a very friendly woman - although, she does have a bit of a bite to her! For the most part, she is open, inviting, and eager to help those who need it; it is for this reason that she is so eager to give skating lessons to patrons of her roller rink. She is kind to those she perceives as worthy of her protection.

Regarding those people in particular, however, she does have a bit of a mother-bear aspect to her personality. Her secondary nickname is “The Tank” for a reason; when you cross her or anybody under her protection, she will provide retribution without mercy. Although retired as a derby woman, she is extremely strong and more than willing to give it to anybody who looks at the ladies of the derby team the wrong way.

That being said, she is surprisingly passive towards gang and/or mercenary activity taking place in or around the rink - while she never directly participates, she will only interfere in the happenings if they begin to disturb her other patrons.

She is quite sympathetic towards newcomers to the city, and gladly will offer work positions at the rink for those looking to earn some credits.

Back story:

At the tender age of nineteen years old, Sheila became famous within her hometown as a skater and promptly was hired on as a derby queen on a team known as The Tanks, going by the nickname “The Scorpion Stinger”. Although her reputation grew extremely quickly, by the age of twenty-one she had already grown weary of the derby circuit as well as being so very well-known for such a petty talent, and she decided to migrate to Gulch.

Once there, she elected to pursue her true passion - teaching, particularly in the realm of skating. To her dismay, she found that the skating culture in Gulch was practically nonexistent compared to her hometown, and the one rink that existed in the city was pretty much abandoned. The one blessing was that, given the city’s lack of skating knowledge, Sheila herself was able to start with a clean slate.

That being said, what with her being alone in a new city with few possessions, she had very few options in terms of pursuing her ambitions. After about a year and a half of hemming and hawing, she finally called up some of her old derby friends and got their help in purchasing the run-down rink at the edge of the city. She started putting together a new derby team because she knew it would be easiest to find revenue to pay off her loans for the rink that way, and to boost their early popularity, she allowed the information that the Scorpion Stinger was their coach to leak.

Fast forward; Sheila is now in her early thirties, made a rich woman by the derby team - the Blood Gulch Bruisers - and the rink itself, as well as her renewed reputation. She has now retired as coach and instead maintains the rink as a whole. She also has found time to do what she set out to do in the first place, and has become a skating instructor in her free time. She is a big name about town once again, but only if you speak to the right people. While she has forfeited her position at the head of the Blood Gulch Bruisers, she is still a prominent figure in the derby community and spends much of her time caring for the team.

She also has developed a close relationship with the Blues, which can be surprising to the casual observer. However, she remembers with fondness her own beginning years in Gulch, and as such is quite indulgent towards anybody who is new to the city.

While she is accepting and even welcoming towards gangs such as the Blues or the mercs, she doesn’t actively participate in any of their doings… but maybe, if you’re lucky, she’ll happen to have picked up a hint or two about whatever information you may be seeking.

The mercs would be making an appearance at the bout that night; her boys in blue had warned her all about it the moment they’d heard anything about it. It’s almost cute how concerned they are over it, and over her.

Sheila isn’t concerned. She understands why they are, of course, but they are, as always, underestimating her, and overestimating everyone else; So long as it remains a business transaction and not a confrontation, she is confident that the mercs won’t be providing any more trouble than usual.

She watches the warm-ups with idle interest - the Bruisers are nursing an ankle injury on their best jammer, but the girls are compensating fairly well tonight. She internally praises the coach before the crowd’s volume begins to hike up, and some of her own fans call out to her from within the growing clusters of people.

She exchanges cordial words with several of those bold enough to approach her while still scanning the crowd for familiar faces. She takes note of the one man, speaking low with somebody next to him, and reckons those are the two she’d have to keep an eye on that evening.

Sure enough, half an hour later, Sheila is notified of raised voices coming from the same section the two men had elected to sit in. She smiles kindly at the staff member who had told her, cracks her knuckles, ensures that her skirt is lain properly, and approaches.

The first blow is thrown just in time for her to catch it, and to grip the man’s hand with bone-crushing strength.

“Dear me,” she chirps, “I am afraid that is not acceptable behavior here in my arena.”
